The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced major changes in data bundles, effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

This announcement was made during a press conference following extensive engagements with the CEOs of AirtelTigo (AT), Telecel Ghana Limited, and Scancom Ghana Limited (MTN Ghana). This meeting was aimed at enhancing value to meet the demands of Ghanaian consumers.

Sam George announced adjustments to data bundle value offerings across three major operators, including MTN Ghana, which holds Significant Market Power (SMP) status. All data bundles currently offered will increase by 15%.

The minister also said the popular 399 Ghana cedi bundle, which had been reduced to a 350 cedi bundle offering 92.88 gigabytes, has been restored. The bundle will now be reinstated to 214 gig for 399 Ghana cedis.

AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana will increase their existing data bundles by 10%, with AirtelTigo’s 400 Ghana cedi bundle now offering 236 gigabytes instead of 190 gigabytes, and Telecel’s 400 Ghana cedi bundle increasing to 250 gigabytes instead of 90 gigabytes starting July 1.

Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their satisfaction and praise the minister for finally hearing their pleas for data prices to be reduced.

A popular tech influencer who had been advocating boldly for data price reduction posted on X, “Congratulations, everyone, we are doing great, and the government is listening. This is what we love from every government. MTN will now offer GH₵399 for 214GB starting from July. Now, tell us the government doesn’t influence data prices. Great job, Sam George!”

“I like the way this generation is able to pressure government for change,” another reacted.

Overall, users are pleased with the new development and hopefully, the changes either improve or remain the same over a long period of time.
