Kia’s upcoming electric pickup to challenge Ford, Toyota, and Tesla

KIA has announced its first all electric pickup truck for the US built on a brand-new EV platform made for both city streets and off road adventures. Instead of reusing its current electric underpinnings, this truck promises extra cabin and bed space, a self leveling suspension for heavy towing, special traction controls for rough terrain, underbody protection, and software updates that happen over the air.

Though Kia hasn’t shared exact battery size or range, experts think it will be similar to the 77.4 kWh pack in the EV6 about 300 miles on a single charge in rear drive form with options for all wheel drive. We’ve already seen test vehicles in the US and Kia plans to start selling the truck around late 2026.

To keep prices down and qualify for EV some tax credits in the US, Kia will build the truck at its Georgia plant. This also avoids the 25 percent tariff on light trucks that are imported. It’s a big deal – Kia is putting real money and jobs into this factory, showing how serious it is.

By entering the mid size pickup market, Kia is taking on popular gas trucks like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and Hyundai Santa Cruz, plus electric rivals like the Ford F 150 Lightning, Tesla Cybertruck, and Rivian R1T. With a goal of selling 90,000 units a year in North America.

This new truck is part of Kia’s “Plan S” to roll out 15 battery electric models by 2030 and sell over 4 million electrified vehicles each year by the end of the decade. If everything goes as planned, Kia’s pickup could shake up the truck world, give buyers a solid, reliable option, and help Kia become a major player in the electric truck race.
