As of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, mobile data users across Ghana are set to benefit from enhanced data bundles at no additional cost. This development comes on the back of new directives issued by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George.

Minister Samuel Nartey George, who announced in June, confirmed that all three major telecom operators: MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana, have increased the volume of data offered under existing bundle prices. The move is aimed at improving consumer value and restoring competitive balance in the sector.

“As of July 1, all data bundles will increase by at least 10% in value. For example, a GH¢400 bundle that previously offered 195 GB now delivers 236 GB,” the minister stated.

Updated Data Bundle Breakdown

  • MTN Ghana
    • Previous: GH¢350 = 92.88 GB (adjusted from GH¢399 bundle)
    • New: GH¢399 = 214 GB
    • All bundles increased by 15% in value
  • AT Ghana
    • Previous: GH¢400 = 195 GB
    • New: GH¢400 = 236 GB
    • All bundles increased by 10%
  • Telecel Ghana
    • Previous: GH¢400 = 90 GB
    • New: GH¢400 = 250 GB
    • All bundles increased by 10%

Minister George applauded telecom CEOs for absorbing the cost of the adjustments to ease the financial burden on consumers. He acknowledged the financial sacrifice required but praised the collaborative effort that led to the reforms.

To ensure transparency and compliance, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has been tasked with monitoring rollout and enforcing sanctions where needed. Beginning Q3 2025, the NCA will also launch quarterly billing audits to uphold pricing integrity across mobile services.

Longer-term reforms are also underway. The ministry is in discussions with the Ministries of Finance and Energy to address the nearly 39% tax burden on data services—an effort expected to further reduce prices in the future.

“I inherited this sector in a state of comatose. But with heart, with swiftness, and with bold action, we are working to fix it,” Minister George concluded.

With the changes now in force, Ghanaian consumers can look forward to better value, more transparency, and a more competitive telecom landscape.
