In a bid to appeal to younger users who are experiencing declining interest, Tinder has introduced “Double Date”, a new function that allows users to pair up with friends and find other couples that have similar preferences to their own, including sexual orientation and gender.

When someone finds a match, they can start group discussions and browse through other partnered users in this informal and social method of finding relationships. In order to have one-on-one conversations, users can also like specific profiles inside the match.

Up to three companions may be invited to partake in the novel dating experience. By lowering the stress and worry what comes with dating alone, this strategy seeks to make things more pleasant for everyone.

The function expands on earlier community-focused products like Tinder Matchmaker and Share My Date, advancing the app’s mission to make dating seem less scary and more real.

“To activate Double Date, users only need to select up to three friends, tap the icon located in the upper right corner of the main card stack, and begin matching,” Tinder stated. Without any formalities, a group chat is created to plan the next step after both partners are comfortable with one another.

Double Date has demonstrated high user interest in its early testing, especially among younger people. More than half of Tinder’s user base worldwide is currently made up of Gen Z and younger millennials, as evidenced by the fact that over 90% of profiles created using the function were created by those under the age of 29.

As part of this new feature, Tinder has introduced safety features like ID verification and “share my date,” allowing users to share details of their date with friends and family. The feature has shown that women are three times more likely to like a pair than individual profiles, and match rates have been significantly higher for those using it.

Additionally, it is helping attract new and returning users to the app, with nearly 15% of those accepting a double date invite either new or recently reactivated.

Tinder, launched in 2012, is the world’s most-used dating app with 50 million monthly users. Owned by Match Group, it helped bring online dating into the mainstream. Other dating platforms owned by Match Group include Hinge and OkCupid.
