Adobe has launched its first AI smartphone app, Firefly, which includes models from the company and partner firms. The app aims to capitalize on the growing trend of sharing AI images and videos on social media.

Users can generate images and videos using text descriptions and experiment with AI photo-editing tools. Adobe also introduces third-party AI models and video generation support to its Firefly Boards platform.

Along with Adobe Photoshop’s Generative Fill and Generative Expand features, the Firefly app for iOS and Android gives users access to Adobe’s text-to-image, text-to-video, and image-to-video tools.

When using Firefly’s features, users are able to pick from a variety of third-party AI models, such as OpenAI’s image generator, Veo 2 and 3 video models, and Google’s Imagen 3 and 4 image models.

Adobe is also integrating models from new partner firms Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika and Runway, which can be accessed in Firefly Boards, a product that is part of the Firefly web app.

The Firefly mobile app generates content that syncs with the user’s Creative Cloud account, enabling seamless web and desktop work. However, some Adobe AI tools on mobile require users to spend Firefly credits, which can be obtained through paid Creative Cloud plans or a dedicated subscription.

Adobe will offer unlimited basic image generation from its models, with additional charges for access to premium models and those from its partners. The subscription cost is the same as the web versions of Firefly, which start at $10 per month.

The company has promised users that its AI model is trained on material it has a legal right to use, offering protection against copyright claims.

Adobe’s CTO for digital media, Ely Greenfield, believes that the company’s approach to commercial safety and the training of Firefly continues to be a significant differentiator for consumers, says Reuters.
