Volvo has upgraded the XC40 Recharge to the EX40, a more refined and progressive electric SUV. This car, which combines cutting-edge technology, practical usability, and Scandinavian minimalism into an interesting package is intended for both families and professionals.

The Volvo XC40 boasts a 12.3-inch digital driver display, comfortable seats, USB-C ports, Google digital services, and upscale features like a 360-degree surround view camera, 2-zone climate control, mechanical seat cushion extensions, heated seats, air purification, and a laminated panoramic sunroof. The exterior has LED headlights, 20-inch diamond-cut wheels, and safety features like lane departure warning, blind spot detection, collision avoidance, pilot assist, run-off road protection, and whiplash protection.

Technology and infotainment use Android Automotive OS, which comes with built-in Google Maps, Voice Assistant, and Play Store. Views like “Calm,” “Navi,” and “Car-Centric” layouts can be customized on a 12.3-inch digital driver display. While Pilot Assist provides semi-autonomous highway comfort, one-pedal driving and regenerative braking contribute to efficiency. Convenience features include wireless charging, a Harman Kardon audio system, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The Volvo EX40 charges from 10 to 80 percent at DC fast-charging stations in around 28 minutes. This figure is preliminary and based on estimates, but not guaranteed. Charging times may vary based on factors like outdoor temperature, battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition, and car condition. Vehicle certification is pending.

The EX40’s strengths lie in its elegant styling, supportive cabin with clever storage, safety-first engineering, and Google-integrated infotainment and one-pedal comfort. However, it has setbacks as well, which include a small touchscreen, no physical climate controls, a low-mounted rearview camera that limits upward visibility, and occasional early user reports of front-end vibrations during vigorous acceleration.
The starting price for the single-motor Extended Range model is around $53,975, while the Twin Motor Ultra builds to around $62,045. Powertrain options include single motor RWD (248 hp, ~6.9 seconds 0–60 mph, ~296-mile EPA range) and twin motor AWD (Ultra trim) (402 hp, 0–60 in ~4.6–4.8 seconds, ~260-mile EPA range, ~94 MPGe).
