A sneak peak into Volvo Model Y rival, the EX60

Volvo has revealed the first glimpse of the upcoming EX60, an electric version of the brand’s XC60 combustion model. The mid-size electric crossover made a brief appearance at the ES90 electric sedan reveal.

The EX60 is built on the company’s advanced SPA3 production architecture, a more flexible architecture that enables smaller and larger cars, and significant cost reductions, making it the first model from the Swedish automaker.

The new ES90 saloon’s introduction video slightly revealed the EX60 as a clay model with only a portion of the back visible. It lacks C-shaped rear lights like the ES90 or smaller EX30, instead featuring vertical lights connected by a stretched light bar. Despite this, the EX60 is expected to maintain Volvo’s robust SUV appearance.

The EX60 will use the same 800V technology as the new ES90, allowing it to charge up to 350kW in just 20 minutes. It will also include improved software for ongoing over-the-air updates. The EX60 is believed to have a 107 kWh battery that can drive 374 kilometers on a single charge.

However, because of its smaller size, it is unlikely to have the same battery capacity as the EX90. The EX60 will include a structural battery pack to improve efficiency, and because to its lower size, it could achieve an official range of closer to 400 miles.

On the inside, the EX60 is expected to have similar tech to the ES90, featuring a 14.5in infotainment touchscreen, 9.0in driver’s display, head-up display, integrated Google services like Maps, Assistant, and Waze, and an updated infotainment system that is claimed to be twice as fast as its old version. The 2026 EX60 will feature the world’s first multi-adaptive safety belt.

The EX60 electric Volvo will stand out with its “structural” battery pack, a technology already adopted by Tesla and BYD. This design connects the battery pack to the vehicle’s floor, resulting in improved energy density and improved driveability, according to Auto Express.

Expected to be available in showrooms in 2026, the EX60 is expected to be a 2027 model.
