Liverpool and Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, along with his brother, André Silva, have reportedly lost their lives in a tragic car accident involving their Lamborghini in northern Spain.
The unfortunate incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, when the Lamborghini he was driving suffered a catastrophic tyre blowout while overtaking on the A-52 near the town of Cernadilla, close to Zamora in northwestern Spain. The high-powered supercar veered off the road, flipped multiple times, and burst into flames, killing both Jota, 28, and his younger brother André, 26, who was travelling with him.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but found the brothers beyond help. The crash was captured in shocking footage, showing the charred wreckage of the Lamborghini overturned on the roadside and surrounded by emergency crews. Video obtained by Spanish media reveals the devastating trajectory of the vehicle, from the moment it lost control to the fiery explosion that followed. Tyre marks indicated where the Lamborghini veered sharply off course, and shattered pieces of the central reservation littered the scene.

Authorities believe the cause of the deadly accident was a tyre blowout, which likely caused Jota to lose control at high speed. The luxury supercar’s immense power, combined with the sudden tyre failure, turned a routine overtaking manoeuvre into a fatal disaster. The intensity of the fire that consumed the Lamborghini made it impossible for rescuers to save the brothers.
The tragedy comes just days after Jota married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, in a heartfelt ceremony in Porto on June 22. The father of three had, only hours earlier, shared a moving Instagram post celebrating their wedding, calling it “a day we will never forget” and describing himself as “the luckiest man in the world.” Rute also posted pictures of their wedding day, captioning them: “My dream come true.”

News of Jota’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the football world, with Liverpool, Portugal, and former teammates—including his captain, Cristiano Ronaldo—paying heartfelt tributes to the young star, whose life and promising career were tragically cut short.
