A fatal accident at Adanwomaso in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of two policemen and a civilian, leaving others in critical condition.
This unfortunate event occurred on July 9, involving a bullion van, which reportedly carried cash, with registration number AS 19 43-24 and a KIA truck bearing registration number AS 51 42-24.
According to reports, the head-on collision occurred when the empty KIA truck, which overtook another vehicle and was moving at a very high speed, ran into the bullion van carrying the policemen, which was also moving at a very high speed.
The KIA truck driver reportedly lost both legs, while all four occupants of the bullion van lost their lives, except the driver, who only sustained a cut on the forehead.
Both vehicles have also been damaged beyond recognition, and survivors are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Adanwomaso tragedy is part of a disturbing pattern in Ghana, with 14,135 road crashes in 2023 and 1,267 deaths in the first half of 2024. The loss should spark a nationwide movement for safer roads, requiring stronger enforcement of traffic laws, public education campaigns, and transparent accountability from the National Road Safety Authority and DVLA.
