Ford recalls 850,000+ vehicles over fuel pump defect

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 850,318 Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a potential failure of the low-pressure fuel pump, which could result in engine stalling and increase the risk of a crash.

The recall notice explains that affected vehicles may experience a loss of fuel pressure and fuel flow from the fuel tank, leading to inadequate fuel delivery to the engine. Ford notes that failure is more likely to occur under low fuel conditions or during warm weather and hot fuel scenarios within the fuel tank.

Early warning signs of fuel pump failure include poor engine performance, reduced engine power, and an illuminated “Check Engine” light. However, Ford has stated that it is not aware of any injuries resulting from this issue.

Notification letters will begin mailing to affected owners on July 14, with a second round of notices planned once the remedy is available.

Models Included in the Recall:

Ford:

  • 2021–2022 F-150
  • 2021–2023 Mustang
  • 2021–2023 Bronco
  • 2021–2023 Explorer
  • 2021–2022 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 Super Duty
  • 2022 Expedition

Lincoln:

  • 2021–2022 Navigator
  • 2021–2023 Aviator

For assistance, owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

So far this year, Ford has issued 89 recalls through the NHTSA, impacting over 5 million vehicles. This latest action follows a January recall of approximately 295,449 diesel-engine trucks over high-pressure fuel pump concerns.
