Toyota USA has introduced a stylish new version of its popular hybrid vehicle, the 2025 Prius Nightshade Edition giving the eco-friendly car a fresh, sporty makeover, according to the Toyota USA Newsroom.
This new Nightshade Edition is based on the XLE trim and comes with sleek black details on the outside. These include black 19-inch alloy wheels, black door handles, black bumper trim, and even a black shark-fin antenna. The goal is to give the car a cooler, more aggressive look while maintaining the strong fuel efficiency the Prius is known for as cited by Toyota USA Newsroom.

Drivers can choose from three colour options: Karashi Yellow, a bold golden hue exclusive to the Nightshade; Midnight Black Metallic, for a complete blacked-out appearance; and Wind Chill Pearl, a crisp white that provides contrast against the dark accents.
The engine remains unchanged from the standard Prius. It features a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors, delivering a combined 196 horsepower. This hybrid setup is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The front-wheel-drive model offers an impressive fuel economy of up to 57 miles per gallon (MPG), while the all-wheel-drive version delivers around 54 MPG.

Inside, the Nightshade continues its sleek theme with black synthetic leather seats and contrasting grey stitching. The cabin features a digital display and Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia system, which includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice control activated by saying “Hey Toyota.”
Safety is also a highlight. The Prius Nightshade comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 — a suite of advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and road sign recognition — aimed at making every drive smoother and safer.
Toyota has set the starting price for the Nightshade Edition at $33,755 for the front-wheel-drive model and $35,630 for the all-wheel-drive version. The model is now available at Toyota dealerships across the United States.
Even though the Nightshade Edition is currently a U.S.-market release, international fans of the Prius — including those in Africa and elsewhere — will be watching closely to see if Toyota introduces similar trims in global markets. With growing interest in stylish, fuel-efficient cars, there is strong potential for demand beyond the U.S.
Early reactions from car reviewers and enthusiasts have been largely positive. Many have praised the Nightshade Edition for giving the Prius a “moody” and “edgy” look that breaks away from its traditionally conservative image, with MSN Autos calling it “Toyota’s most stylish hybrid yet.”
By adding this Nightshade Edition to its Prius lineup, Toyota continues its effort to attract younger, style-conscious drivers who want the practicality and savings of a hybrid without sacrificing personality. With its bold design and reliable performance, the 2025 Prius Nightshade Edition proves that driving green doesn’t have to look boring.
