Tesla teases new Model Y seating options

Tesla has announced a new seating option for its Model Y, hinting at a potential return of the seven-seat configuration for the Model Y. It highlights its spaciousness in a recent marketing email to customers, likely to pique the interest of larger families.

“Ready for anything with long range, seating for up to seven, and enough room for everyone’s gear,” the email read.

In 2021, Tesla introduced a seven-seat configuration, which proved to be a tight fit for anyone, including children. The seven-seater had forward-facing seats and tight legroom dimensions, but many considered it too confined for their needs.

It was popular in Asia-Pacific, European, and North American markets, despite differences in vehicle sizing and spaciousness.

Tesla confirmed earlier this year that the car would get other configurations, including rear-wheel drive, a Performance trim with bumper covers, and a seven-seat version. The company has also confirmed that the car will be available in other configurations.

The redesigned Model Y debuted earlier this year as the Launch Series model, which was based on the LR AWD trim. Unlike the original Model Y, which had a 7-seat option, the refurbished model only has a 5-seat configuration. Tesla intimated in the email that this will change soon.

In 2021, Tesla experienced steady sales growth but struggled to adjust to a new Model Y variant. In 2025, sales are declining each quarter, and the 7-seat Model Y could potentially act as a sales catalyst for this second quarter.
