Business mogul Ibrahim Mahama has revealed plans to open his own museum in the next two and a half years, drawing inspiration from the newly launched Despite Auto Museum. Speaking at the grand opening of Dr. Osei Kwame Despite’s automotive museum, Mahama expressed admiration for the collection, describing it as “overwhelming”.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama disclosed that his museum will be located near the Airport, offering a unique experience for visitors. However, he noted that his facility might not be as large as Despite but will still showcase an impressive collection of historical and artistic pieces.
‘’ I shall establish a museum but not as big as this, he is actually my senior so I give him respect of what he has done. I will look at the airport area, I think the airport area will be good, such that we can have museums to visit. My museum will be about two and a half years away,” he said in an interview.
A Vision for Ghana’s Cultural Landscape
His announcement has sparked excitement among art and history enthusiasts, as his museum is expected to contribute to Ghana’s growing cultural and heritage tourism sector. While details about the specific exhibits remain undisclosed, his reputation as a collector and patron of the arts suggests that the museum will feature a mix of historical artifacts, automobiles, and contemporary art.
During the event, Mahama praised Despite’s dedication to preserving automotive history, stating that the museum is a remarkable addition to Ghana’s tourism industry.
The Despite Auto Museum, launched on June 1, 2025, houses an impressive collection of classic Bugattis, Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith LWB, Bentleys, high-end Mercedes-Benz models, Jaguars, and Harley-Davidson motorbikes.
What’s next?
While Mahama’s museum is still in the planning phase, his announcement has generated anticipation among collectors and art lovers. As Ghana continues to embrace museum culture, its upcoming project is expected to further enrich the country’s art and automotive heritage.
