In a beautiful, heartwarming gesture, businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has honored boxing legend Azumah Nelson with a Toyota Fortuner and an undisclosed amount of money.
The presentation took place on Monday, June 16, when Sharaf Mahama, a son of President John Mahama and CEO of Legacy Rise Sports, together with British-Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua, paid a courtesy call on the businessman at his office.
A viral video shows Azumah Nelson in the midst of the delegation, clearly moved by the gesture and expressing his appreciation.
Mr. Mahama praised Azumah Nelson as Africa’s greatest boxer, highlighting his outstanding achievements in the ring and his ongoing efforts in mentoring youth and promoting sports development in Ghana.
Azumah Nelson expressed his appreciation for the honour, saying, “I am grateful to Ibrahim Mahama and Sharaf Mahama for this unexpected gesture,” he said. “I was simply here to support Sharaf and his commitment to boxing, a sport I have dedicated my life to.”
The delegation participated in the just-ended Battle of the Beasts boxing event over the weekend, which was aimed at elevating Ghanaian boxing’s profile and celebrating its heritage through high-level sporting engagement.
The businessman also gifted Anthony Joshua a brand-new Honda CRF 450R motorbike as a welcome token on his arrival in Ghana ahead of the boxing event.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama is known for his kind heart and his love for cars. This move, though a surprising one, affirms the kind of person he is as a giver and a person who gives honour to whom honour is due.
