Drivers rejoice as fuel prices drop again

Fuel prices in Ghana are dropping once again due to the rising competition among major Oil Marketing Companies (OMC). For the second time this week, drivers are seeing lower prices at the pump as major fuel brands try to outdo each other with discounts.

What started as a quiet shift in pricing has now turned into a full-blown price war, giving consumers a welcome break from high fuel costs.

Market leader Star Oil kicked things off on June 19, 2025, by cutting the price of petrol from GH₵10.99 to GH₵10.80 per litre. Diesel prices also saw a drop, from GH₵12.77 down to GH₵12.13 per litre.

Not to be left out, Allied Oil is also joining the competition. Just a few days ago, on June 16, they were selling petrol at GH₵10.97. But starting June 20, 2025, their new price will be GH₵10.75 per litre.

Meanwhile, Zen Petroleum has matched that price, now selling petrol at GH₵10.75 as well.

While petrol prices are coming down, diesel has seen a slight increase compared to earlier in the month. It’s still unclear what’s behind that small hike, but overall, consumers are benefiting from the lower prices, at least for now.

While drivers and other consumers are enjoying the lower prices, some OMCs are warning that things might change in the coming weeks. They say fuel prices could go up again starting July 1, 2025, if tensions in the Middle East continue.

Since the conflict between Israel and Iran began, the price of crude oil has jumped from $66 to around $76 per barrel. That could eventually push pump prices higher here in Ghana.
