Tesla sells only 512 cars in Europe in April as Musk-Trump bond crashes sales

Tesla, once the king of electric cars, is facing a tough time in Europe. The company, known for its sleek designs and cutting-edge technology, is seeing a sharp drop in sales across major European markets. While electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular, Tesla’s numbers are going in the opposite direction.

In the UK, Tesla’s sales dropped by 62% in April, with only 512 cars sold, according to a report by Ars Technica. Germany, another key market, saw a 46% decline, with just 885 new Tesla registrations. Other countries like Sweden and the Netherlands reported even bigger drops, with sales falling by 81% and 74%, respectively. This decline is in sharp contrast to the EV adoption drive in Europe. In Germany, for example, overall EV sales increased by 53.5% in April, yet Tesla’s numbers went down.

Several factors contribute to the decline in patronage. One major reason is competition from Chinese EV brands like BYD and Geely, which are gaining popularity, offering affordable and high-quality electric cars. In the UK, BYD’s sales surged by 650%, while Tesla’s numbers plummeted.

Another issue is Elon Musk’s political influence. Ars Technica reports that Tesla’s sales have collapsed in Europe due to Musk’s affiliation to Donald Trump and his political stance. Many European consumers are distancing themselves from Tesla, with protests erupting at dealerships and a decline in brand loyalty.

The launch of the popular Model Y has still not aided sales as consumers believe Tesla’s lineup is outdated compared to newer EVs from competitors. The company’s Berlin factory, which was earmarked to boost production is underutilized due to reduced demand.

With competition heating up and consumer sentiment shifting, the company will need to rethink its strategy. Lowering prices, introducing new models, and improving brand perception could help Tesla regain its footing.

For now, Tesla’s European dream is looking shaky, and the road ahead is uncertain.
