There has been a significant surge in the delivery of battery-electric cars in Europe, as reported by the Volkswagen Group. This surge has led the manufacturer to double its numbers from 74,400 units in the first quarter of 2024 to over 150,000 units by the end of March 2025. This proves that electric vehicles (EVs) are in high demand and will surge even more in the coming years as the world moves toward green energy.
Beyond that, the company has also announced an increase in orders for its electric vehicles and the more common traditional combustion engine models. In a statement on Wednesday, Volkswagen said, “Orders for Volkswagen vehicles, both electric and combustion engine, rose 29% in Western Europe compared to last year.”

The company confirmed these figures after reports from German media highlighted a global transition to electric cars and how this transition is accelerating faster than expected.
It said further that it expected sales of its battery-electric models to gradually ramp up in the coming months as it launches new versions of key models such as the ID.3 and ID.4X.
At the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the carmaker will premiere the first series production model of a new Audi brand to be launched this year, and showcase three VW models coming out in 2026, Reuters reports.
Meanwhile, in China, total sales fell by 7.1%, despite the carmaker still maintaining a strong share of the combustion engine market at 22%.
