Nissan is set to begin selling its all-new electric pick-up, the Frontier-Pro, in China later this year.

The company unveiled the five-seat, dual-purpose Frontier Pro at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, promoting it as the brand’s first electrified pickup and its first-ever plug-in hybrid.

The plug-in pickup was codeveloped by Zhengzhou Nissan, an affiliate of Nissan’s venture with Dongfeng Motor that is mostly focused on commercial vehicles. The car will be exported from China as part of Nissan’s strategy to utilize the nation’s excess production capacity.

According to Nissan, the pickup is “designed for families who seek a vehicle that can comfortably and efficiently support their daily urban driving as well as weekend adventures beyond the city limits.”

The Nissan Frontier Pro is a rugged SUV with unique headlight graphics, an illuminated Nissan emblem, and a rugged bumper. It features 18-inch wheels and thicker side protection, updated taillights, and extra horizontal LEDs on the tailgate.

The truck has a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a high-output electric motor integrated into the transmission, producing over 402 hp and 800 Nm of torque. It comes with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and an electromechanical rear differential lock.

The Frontier Pro offers four selectable drive modes: Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance, and Snow, and can provide up to 135 km of EV-only range. Its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system can supply up to 6 kW of power for household devices.

Nissan is expected to start producing the Frontier Pro in China Later this year. Although Nissan hasn’t disclosed the precise locations, the truck will soon be offered in other markets.

Nissan also unveiled the N7 electric sedan in Shanghai, alongside the Frontier Pro. By summer 2027, nine new Nissan-branded NEVs are expected to be available in China.
