Mercedes is allegedly planning major changes for the C-Class facelift, and after the mid-cycle upgrade is released, both AMG models will be phased out.
As part of its makeover for the 206 series C-Class, Mercedes-AMG is reportedly launching a new C 53 4MATIC+ with a 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine. All previous AMG models in the C-Class will be replaced by the C 53 4MATIC+, which focuses on the C 63 SE Performance’s electrified four-cylinder engine. Additionally, the four-cylinder C 43 4MATIC will be phased out at the same time.
This action indicates a shift from the 2022 four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain, which produced 670 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque with an electronically turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine and a rear-mounted electric motor.
Reports also claim that the Mercedes-AMG C 63 SE Performance proved to be a slow seller for the Affalterbach-based performance manufacturer. Instead of adding sporty flair to the road, the models tended to accumulate unsold at dealerships.
There is currently no official confirmation of the precise power output level that will take the place of the C 63 SE Performance (350 kW/476 hp plus 150 kW/204 hp electric motor) and the C 43 4MATIC (310 kW/421 hp). But it is anticipated that AMG would use the M256M mild hybrid, an electrified variant of the M256 inline six-cylinder engine.
Despite having a heavier combustion engine than the present M139 four-pot, installing a six-cylinder engine without the plug-in hybrid components should greatly reduce the car’s curb weight.

The current-generation C-Class has been around since 2021, so a mid-cycle facelift should be inching closer.
Whether a C53 is indeed intended to replace the C43 and C63 or if a similar approach will be used for the GLC crossover is still unknown because Mercedes has not confirmed or denied the report.
